Canadian Designer Offers Optional Canadian Motif
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Independent designer Andrea Carter has introduced a new minimalist design motif intended to offer a quiet visual expression of our Canadian identity. The motif debuts through a collection of casual apparel and gift items, currently only available online.
“The design is rooted in movement,” says Carter. “Like rivers, we’re constantly changing — new people, new currents — yet there remains something deeply Canadian in the flow.”
Using our traditional maple leaf flag as a starting point, Carter introduced movement and incorporated segments to flow in and out of negative space. Interpretation is left open to viewers, who might even see iconic Canadian creatures within the design.
The aim is to create something that feels recognizably Canadian without being overt, a subtle layered symbolism.
“It’s not a statement piece,” she adds. “It’s more like a quiet note — something that lets people decide what it means to them.”
The release arrives during a period of international collaboration for Carter, who is working on a separate project with a Chilean designer. While her design has evolved across borders, her work remains rooted in her Canadian background.
The project reflects Carter’s broader interest in storytelling. With a creative projects spanning literature, and independent graphic design, her work often explores themes of belonging, memory, and global interconnectedness.
The iconic Canuck Modern motif is the first theme on offer. Other Canadian-themed designs are in the works.
The collection is available exclusively through Carter’s online storefront at canuckmodern.com, with potential for future collaborations with like-minded Canadian suppliers and retailers.
